I am a Web developer, focusing primarily on ColdFusion/Lucee, Javascript, CSS, and related technologies. I started this blog to provide the developer community with some information about the issues I run into in my daily work. Most of the work I do involves short deadlines and fast development, and I spend a lot of time “in the trenches” doing heavy development work. I do not follow any specific methodologies/frameworks, and I am not someone who believes that there is only one right way to do things. I do what it takes to get the job done and make my clients/users happy, and that has worked out quite well for me.
My jobs…
Director of Web Services, Hamilton College
I am the director of the Web development team at Hamilton College. This is my primary job. My team does all of the Web programming at the college, including updating and maintaining a complex custom content management system (SiteManager) and a full-featured Web portal (My Hamilton). We manage over 150 Web applications for the college. As a Director, I am also a member of the management team for Library and Information Technology Services at Hamilton.
Vice-President, Brockett Creative Group, Inc.
In 1999, I started a Web development and hosting company called tSpark Solutions that focused on making it possible for small-to-medium sized businesses to have full-featured Web sites. My company mostly subcontracted for advertising and marketing firms in the Syracuse and Utica (New York) areas. In 2007, business grew to the point where I could no longer handle the day-to-day management of the company. As a result, we merged with Brockett Creative Group in 2009. I am now responsible for Web development activity at Brockett Creative, largely revolving around eCommerce and database applications. In addition to the development responsibilities, I also continue to manage tSpark’s hosting – which is now a subdivision of Brockett Creative Group, Inc.
On the personal side, I live in Central New York and grew up in this area. My home is in New Hartford, and I am married with two children. In the summer, I spend a lot of time in Old Forge, NY. If you haven’t already, you really should visit the Adirondacks in the summer or fall!
